Jennie Safford Smith correspondence, 1862-1868 [microform].

The collection consists of a microfilm copy of correspondence written to Jennie Safford Smith from 1862-1868. The correspondence includes 20 letters written to Jennie Safford (became Jennie Smith, 1869) from Henry Armstrong with the 2nd Wisconsin Cavalry Regiment, Company L from Vicksburg, Mississippi (May 12-November 28, 1864), Memphis, Tennessee (January 15-May 8, 1865), and Alexandria, Louisiana (August 1, 1865), and 13 letters from the western territories of Nebraska, Montana, Utah, and Idaho (April 22, 1866-August 22, 1868). John R. Siperly of the 22nd Wisconsin Infantry Regiment wrote 20 letters from August 31-1862-September 21, 1864 on the treatment of civilians and prisoners coming from Andersonville Prison during the Atlanta Campaign while he was working in hospitals in the Atlanta area. William W. Barlow, also of the 22nd Wisconsin Infantry Regiment, wrote 17 letters from August 21, 1864-April 6, 1865 from Tennessee, Georgia, and the Carolinas.

Jennie Safford Smith, a resident of Delavan, Wisconsin, was born ca. 1842.
